The visa policy of Somaliland dictates the use and acquisition of visas in Somaliland. In accordance with the law, citizens of all countries require a visa to visit Somaliland. Somaliland and Somalia have completely different visa policies and Somaliland authorities do not recognize national visas issued by Somalia.

3. Visa on Arrival

Holders of passports issued by the following countries can obtain a visa on arrival at all border checkpoints including Hargeisa Airport:

4. Visa Required in Advance

Applicants who are not allowed visas on arrival can obtain visas from Somaliland Diplomatic Mission offices such as those in London, UAE, and Djibouti. In addition, visa forms are obtainable through the Department of Immigration website. Visas are also issued at the Somaliland embassy and can be sought via application at the Somaliland representative office in London.

5. Global Recognition and Somaliland Visa System

Somaliland’s visa system would be enhanced upon global recognition, with its own passport index rankings. Somaliland has a recognition bid that is gaining momentum, with countries setting new visa policies and changes towards regions that include visits and how and where Somalilanders travel to.

6. Important Notes for Travellers

• Somaliland is a self-declared independent state and is not internationally recognized by most countries.
• Somaliland and Somalia have completely different visa policies; visas issued by Somalia are not valid in Somaliland.
• All foreign nationals require a visa regardless of their country of origin.
• The business visa fee of $10,000 USD reflects the special nature of business entry permits.
