Do I need a visa for SOUTH AFRICA?

South Africa is one of Africa’s most visited countries and offers visa-free access to citizens of many nations. Citizens of EU member states and many other developed countries may visit for up to 90 days without a visa. Citizens of some additional countries receive 30 days visa-free. From late November 2025, South Africa introduced an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) for China, India, Indonesia, and Mexico. An e-Visa facility is available for approximately 20 countries. South Africa also has a well-developed system of long-term visa categories.

2. Visa-Free Access — 90 Days

Citizens of the European Union member states and approximately 40 additional countries may enter South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days:

3. Visa-Free Access — 30 Days

4. Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

From late November 2025, South Africa introduced an ETA for nationals of China, India, Indonesia, and Mexico. The ETA allows for pre-travel authorization similar to an e-Visa but streamlines the process for these high-volume tourist markets. The ETA is currently valid for arrivals at three major international airports.

5. e-Visa

Countries include those from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East that have been identified as priority e-Visa markets.

6. Non-Ordinary Passport Exemptions

Holders of diplomatic, official, service, or special passports from many additional countries receive visa-free access even if ordinary passport holders of those nationalities require a visa. This applies to over 35 countries under bilateral agreements.

Holders of travel documents issued by the following international organizations may enter South Africa under special provisions:

10. General Entry Requirements
